Best Buy Teen Tech Center at Detroit Hispanic Development Corporation

Project Summary

The first of its kind in Michigan, the Best Buy Teen Tech Center at Detroit Hispanic Development Corporation received a grant from The Clubhouse Network, an international community of ore than 100 Clubhouses located in 18 countries, providing access to technology.  Supported by Best Buy, the grant covered the costs related to the purchasing of technology equipment and furniture. The Best Buy Teen Tech Center is a place where teens can develop critical skills through hands on activities that explore their interests in programming, film making, music production and design.  The location will work to bridge the digital divide by giving youth access to tech education opportunities, relationships that help build confidence, and a foundation for school and career success.

AGI provided custom “Built to Suit” warehouse construction services on this unique project.  AGI also selected the architect and engaged a collaborative design process with the DHDC team and architect in order to customise the Best Buy Teen Tech Center template design for the built to suit dedicated warehouse space and DHDC STEAM program needs.

Scope Of Work

Prior to beginning construction, AGI assessed the existing mechanical and electrical systems in order to ensure they would support the IT infrastructure and the state-of-the-art recording studio that was scheduled to be installed.  AGI brought in an audio engineering consultant to identify the appropriate construction grade of the studio, create a customise sound design equipment list, and provide audio equipment training to the DHDC staff.

The construction team demolished the existing space and renovated the warehouse space to include painting and flooring, installation of doors, windows, glass and soundproofing, creating a customised window frame, and coordinating the electrical, networking and other infrastructure improvements.   AGI coordinated with Integrity SIG to install rim strikes and security features on all entrance doors.
